As we conclude our workshop in Spruce Grove, Alberta, we
are united in grief with our kababayans in Vancouver
following the tragic accident at the Lapu-Lapu Day Block
Party 2025, where multiple lives were lost.
Festivals are meant to be an exhibition of love, joy, and
community - moments where we share our culture with
pride with the larger Canadian society. That such tragedy
struck during a time of gathering and celebration breaks
our hearts deeply.
We extend our prayers and sympathy to the victims, their
families, and everyone affected. We stand together, calling
for truth and justice, while also holding space for
forgiveness and peace in the face of unimaginable pain.
Now more than ever, we reaffirm our commitment to
building safe communities where our people can gather in
trust and security. In the spirit of bayanihan, let's continue
to work together - with kindness and compassion - to
build safer, stronger, and more peaceful communities.
Our primary goal is to build a broader, stronger, and effective collaboration among Filipino-Canadians in rural Alberta and beyond.
