Who we are

The Alberta Fil-Can Community Leaders' Association (AFCLA)

is a registered non-profit Alberta society that serves as the umbrella organization of local Filipino organizations and informal groups to address the needs and issues of rural Filipino communities. Collectively, its members cover a wide area, extending across more than 45 towns in rural Alberta.  AFCLA membership represents Filipinos with a diversity of interests, languages, and identities.  AFCLA currently has a membership of 24 organizations

Mental Health

Among Filipino communities in rural Alberta, mental activities in the community, education and information, reducing multiple approaches, including regular social for systemic changes to improve mental health stigma resources and ensuring was access likewise to raised. services.

Youth and Education

Filipinos often say that they come to Canada to seek a better life for themselves and especially a better future for their children. It is important therefore to understand how young Filipinos are faring in Alberta's smaller towns and cities and what can be done to help them achieve successes in life.

Family Relationship

Families individuals are important source of support economic and and resilience for Filipinos. Strong familial bonds individuals to endures difficulties and the economic and social pressures elated immigration and settlement. Stresses and breakdown in family relationships if not addressed lead to an amplify other issues.

Health and Wellness

The Filipino community in rural Alberta is relatively young, with a huge majority in the working-age demographic. Most adults work full-time, with many taking on additional jobs to make ends meet. The number of children and youth is growing. The population of seniors is still small but increasing. A key concern that people have is how to be healthy enough to work. Their experience during the Covid-19 pandemic exposed the distinct health vulnerabilities of Filipinos because many of them are front line workers.
